Way Down Yonder Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the culinary heritage of New Orleans while expanding access to education, empowerment, and opportunity. Our work is deeply personal, born from the vision, passion, and lived experience of a mother and daughter committed to carrying forward traditions passed down through our family.

Founded by Yonder Gordon and Yonder Miller, the Foundation reflects our shared belief that culture is not only something to preserve, but something that can be used to uplift lives. Through restaurant concepts rooted in authenticity, hospitality, and community, we created a foundation for impact that now extends into workforce training, cultural education, and entrepreneurship pathways.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that culture and opportunity go hand in hand. The rich culinary traditions of New Orleans carry stories of resilience, history, and family. We use food as a powerful tool for connection, education, and transformation, helping individuals build confidence, develop skills, and access meaningful opportunities.

Our programs create pathways into the culinary and hospitality industries, fields that provide access to entrepreneurship, economic mobility, and generational growth. Participants gain hands-on experience inside live restaurant environments, learning practical skills that translate directly into employment and ownership opportunities.

Empowerment, to us, means opening doors for individuals who have been historically underserved, underrepresented, or overlooked. Through community partnerships, cultural education, and workforce development, we are building spaces where heritage is honored and futures are transformed.
