A Mother‑and‑Daughter Legacy Rooted in Culture, Community, and the Spirit of New Orleans

Way Down Yonder Legacy Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the culinary heritage of New Orleans while expanding access to education, workforce training, and economic opportunity.

Founded by mother‑and‑daughter team Yonder Gordon and Yonder Miller, the Foundation is built on family tradition, lived experience, and a shared belief that culture can be a pathway to empowerment. Their journey from home‑grown recipes to successful restaurant ownership inspired a mission to help others build futures through food, community, and entrepreneurship.

We use food and hospitality as tools for connection and learning, creating hands‑on training experiences that prepare individuals for careers, leadership roles, and independent business ownership.

Our mission is simple: preserve culture, build skills, and create opportunity for the next generation.

Why We Exist

We believe that cultural heritage is a source of strength, and that when people are given access to training, mentorship, and real‑world experience, they can transform their lives and their communities.

What Makes Us Different

Our programs take place inside real restaurant environments, inspired by the legacy of Way Down Yonder New Orleans Finest Restaurant and Way Down Yonder Beignets & Coffee. This immersive approach provides opportunities traditional classrooms cannot.

Our Vision

A world where culture creates opportunity, where community builds confidence, and where every individual has a pathway to economic independence.

Will You Join Us?

Support the next generation of culinary entrepreneurs and help us build a stronger, more vibrant community.
